Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” to open cairo international film festival
Many people find inspiration in Steven Spielberg’s enduring and Oscar-winning works, which range from “E.T.” and “Jaws” through “Jurassic Park” and “Indiana Jones.” At the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), which opens with a showing of Spielberg’s most recent movie, “The Fabelmans,” his work will continue to make an impression.
The semi-autobiographical movie “The Fabelmans,” which had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, depicts a young boy growing up in post-World War II Arizona and aspiring to be a filmmaker with the assistance of his mother.
This year’s CIFF, which runs from November 13 to November 22, is directed by renowned actor Hussein Fahmy, who took over as festival president when Mohamed Hefzy resigned earlier in the year. Instilling Fahmy was determined to have this year’s CIFF explore new viewpoints, utilising cinema to heal the wounds caused by the current conflict in Ukraine. Fahmy infused his humanitarian soul into the festival’s approach.
Films selected for the festival will compete in specialised regional and international categories. These films portray the world in fragments. Ahmad Abdalla’s “19B” (Egypt), Firas Khoury’s “Alam” (Palestine), Nicolas Giraud’s “The Astronaut” (France), and Maksym Nakonechnyi’s “Butterfly Vision” are just a few of the notable entries in the main international competition (Ukraine).
Meanwhile, the Arab World-Focused Competition will showcase “The Family” by Merzak Allouache (Algeria), “Mother Valley” by Carlos Chahine (France, Lebanon), and “Jaladine” by Hassan Benjelloun (Morocco).
Lebleba, a legendary Egyptian actress, and a Hungarian actor will each receive the Gold Pyramid Lifetime Achievement Awards from the event Bela Tarr, a filmmaker. The Faten Hamama Excellence Award will be given to Egyptian filmmaker Kamla Abu Zekry in the meanwhile.
