ASTIER DE VILLATTE REVIVES THE PERFUMES OF ANCIENT EGYPT

With their new perfume collection, the French perfume company Astier de Villatte reinvents the enigmatic scents of ancient Egypt. The perfumer worked with historians to resurrect three perfumes from several historical periods, including ancient Egypt, ancient Rome, and 18th-century France, by delving deeply into history’s vanished skills.

The “Le Dieu Bleu” perfume recreates the aromas of an ancient Egyptian incense called “kyphi,” which was frequently employed in a variety of rites. It does this by drawing on long-forgotten customs. Le Dieu Blue uses honeyed broom, myrrh, green and fresh lentisk, and fruity opoponax to do this and transport us back in time.
Similar to how the “Artaban” perfume is a more contemporary rendition of the “royal perfume” of ancient Rome, which was created with 24 herbs that were expensively brought from all across the Roman empire. This highly sought-after aroma was recreated with bitter and sweet marjoram, a spicy and fruity cardamom, resinous nard, and herbaceous calamus.

Last but not least, “Le Nuits” was obviously influenced by the scent that French author George Sand wore during the Romantic era. Turkish rose, seductive patchouli, and fluffy iris are used to create this potent scent.

Each perfume comes with a book that details its rich history and the steps taken to create its distinctive scent.
