ATEN MUSEUM IN MINYA WILL FINALLY OPEN ITS DOORS IN 2023, AFTER 20 YEARS
The Aten Museum is already regarded as a landmark in the Upper Egypt governorate of Minya, earning a lot of respect with its dramatic, deconstructed architecture, despite its protracted and ongoing development since 2002. The museum will eventually open in the first half of 2023 after nearly two decades of looking out over the Nile river.
The setting of the museum honours the ancient history and culture of Minya, a city that previously served as Egypt’s capital. The building, spanning roughly 11,500 square metres, is Egypt’s third-largest archaeological museum, behind the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Old Cairo.
The museum honouring the monarch of the 18th dynasty, Akhenaten, will present the background of the ancient Egyptian king and the city he constructed with a monotheistic outlook that sought to unify the gods of ancient Egypt under one sun deity, Aten.
The outdoor section was built to accommodate not only an unbelievable amount of artefacts but also outdoor exhibitions and theatres, as well as a gigantic 650-meter pedestrian walkway along the Nile corniche. The internal area houses substantial collections of artefacts that depict Minya’s ancient past.
