As is customary for Egyptian tourists, admiring Ancient Egyptian treasures in the most opulent museums in the world is both enraging and fascinating, revealing a history of colonialism. A bronze statue of the Egyptian goddess Isis is among the treasures that are, thanks to changes in global perception and Egyptian efforts, returning to Egypt. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the statue was smuggled from Egypt to Switzerland, where it was discovered and returned after being confiscated by Swiss customs agents.

The statue, which depicts Isis holding a young Horus—another holy emblem in Ancient Egyptian history—dates back to the period between 664 and 332 BCE. The recovery of the Isis statue is part of a wave of efforts by the Egyptian government to recover more priceless pieces of Egyptian history that have traditionally been dispersed throughout the world.
