CUSTOM TAXES EXEMPTION LIMIT RAISED TO EGP 15000
Following the most recent depreciation of the Egyptian pound, the maximum personal exemption from customs tax has increased from EGP 10,000 to EGP 15,000. In plain English, this means that both Egyptian residents and visitors will no longer be required to pay an additional tax on purchases made outside of Egypt that are up to EGP 15,000 in value.
Aside from paying 1% of the required customs tax with a minimum of USD 13 or its equivalent in EGP for every litre of spirits, up to a maximum of two litres, the Customs Media Observatory also confirmed that no new tax burdens were placed on goods in airport duty-free shops – if purchases do not exceed USD 200.
