For her achievements to engineering and sustainability, Dr. Fatma El Zahraa Ashour, a professor at Cairo University, was honoured with a medal from France’s prestigious Order of Academic Palms.
Napoleon Bonaparte established the Order of Academic Palms in the 1800s to honour persons who had distinguished themselves by advancing French education and actively enhancing the stature of French culture. Dr. Ashour received the title of “Chevalier” in recognition of her accomplishments.
The accomplished professor currently serves as the head of Cairo University’s department of chemical engineering. She is also a member of a number of international organisations, including the Mediterranean Network of Engineering Schools, where she served as president between 2012 and 2014, and the School of Experts at the Mediterranean Youth Office as a member of the board of directors.
