The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the translation of the Rosetta Stone from September 2 through September 27 with two weeks of cultural events.
The centrepiece of a unique exhibition at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat will be the Rosetta Stone. The display will include the materials used to aid in the translation of the stone and convey the story of how historian Francois Champollion’s interpretation of the stone in 1822 contributed to our current comprehension of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
