The first electric vehicle in Egypt intended for cargo transportation, called Cargo, will go on sale in May.
The Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT), which oversaw the development of Cargo as a motorised tricycle substitute, made the announcement.
AASTMT is also developing a second electric vehicle, a passenger automobile with room for up to five people. Within the next six months, this second model should be released.
The solar-powered energy-efficient vehicles will be built with lower operating costs in mind than their gas-powered counterparts.
The starting price for the cargo vehicles will be EGP 95,000.
