EGYPT TO LAUNCH FIRST LOCALLY ELECTRIC VEHICLE IN 2023
Within the next six months, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) will introduce the first locally produced car in Egypt. The electric car is anticipated to cost EGP 95,000 to purchase.
The two electric vehicles that are part of the AASTMT-funded initiative were created in conjunction with the private sector.
The first electric vehicle was reportedly utilised at the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh in November of last year, according to Mohamed El-Ghamry, Dean of Applied Research at AASTMT. The car costs 30% less than a diesel vehicle and runs on a lithium-ion battery. It’s a 12-year estimated lifespan economical car with a 10-year warranty.
The second EV, which is now under development and features a more roomy layout ideal for families of five, travels at 60 km/h. Although only 60% of the car is made locally, by two years that percentage is anticipated to reach 100%.
