The Egyptians imported 600 kilograms of duty-free gold from abroad during the past three months.
On May 10, Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly issued a six-month republic-wide declaration exempting gold from some customs duties. Until November 2023, Egyptian residents and visitors returning to Egypt from abroad can transport up to 150 grams of gold without paying customs duties.
With the aim of stabilizing gold prices in the country and limiting gold smuggling, the matter excludes gold items intended for monetary circulation, as well as ornaments and jewelry, from customs duties and other fees, with the exception of value-added taxes.
