GIZA ZOO TO UNDERGO MAJOR TRANSFORMATION
The most well-known zoo in Egypt and the first modern zoo constructed in Africa, the Giza Zoo, will undergo a significant change over the next 18 months to become an open-range facility without cages. Following repairs, the zoo and its inhabitants will both be adequately protected by dedicated visitor trails. Beginning in January 2023, the zoo will be closed for a full year to carry out these renovations.
A gondola lift connecting the neighbouring Orman Garden to the Giza Zoo will be added as part of renovations to the area. Since Khedive Ismail built both the botanical garden and the zoo and they were both opened at the same time, they are historically connected, and soon they will be physically connected as well.
An established usufruct, which will oversee the renovations, has been established between the National Military Production Company and the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
