Giza Zoo – Egypt’s most famous zoo and Africa’s first modern zoo – has been closed for 18 months from today, July 9, for major renovations.
The Giza Zoo will be converted into an open-air facility without cages, with the zoo and its animals adequately guarded by dedicated visitor trails.
The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the National Company for Military Production own the usufruct that will drive the renovations.
