LUXOR CARRIAGE DRIVER PRISONED FOR A YEAR FOR ANIMAL ABUSE

After a video of a carriage driver allegedly striking his horse on Luxor’s Al-Madina Street went popular on social media, a misdemeanour court in Luxor fined the man on charges of animal mistreatment. The individual was given a one-year prison term and has to post 500 EGP bail.

Anyone who knowingly harms or kills livestock, such as cows, sheep, or oxen, or working animals, such as donkeys, horses, or camels, is subject to a punishment of at least EGP 200 and a year in prison, according to Article No. 355 of the Penal Code.
