MINOUCHE SHAFIK MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY

Nemat Talaat Shafik, also known as Baroness Nemat “Minouche” Shafik, is a well-known Egyptian-British-American economist who serves as the London School of Economics and Political Science’s director at the moment. As the first woman to hold the role, Baroness Shafik will begin leading Columbia University in New York City on July 1st, the university said today.

The Baroness has a history of breaking records; at the age of 36, she was the youngest vice president in the history of the World Bank.

Throughout her professional life, Minouche Shafik has held prominent positions at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, advanced to significant positions at numerous Ivy League universities, and published a large number of books and scholarly articles.
