NADA MAWSOUF AND MOHAMED EL FALLAL MAKE A DOCUMENTARY MOVIE ABOUT COMPOSER HANY SHENOUDA

A recent short documentary, filmed in the same studio where Hany Shenouda created his extensive discography, which later came to define an era of Arab music, chronicles the life of the pioneer of contemporary music. The American University in Cairo commissioned the film, “A Magical Musical Journey – Hany Shenouda,” directed by Egyptian filmmakers Nada Mawsouf and Mohamed El-Fallal, in advance of their honorary performance honouring Shenouda in 2020.

The documentary tells the story of Shenouda’s creation of El Masreyeen, Egypt’s first modern band, in the 1970s, his discovery of numerous Arab music legends like Amr Diab and Mohamed Mounir, and finally the ways in which Shenouda’s music has been heard by people around the world, most recently as part of the soundtrack for the popular Hulu series “Ramy.”
