Four authors from the MEMI Summer programme will receive a grant of $30k each from @netflix and The Middle East Media Initiative (MEMI) as part of a joint initiative to support their artistic endeavours.
Every year, MEMI brings at least a dozen mid-career and emerging writers from the area to Los Angeles for five weeks so they can workshop their show concepts in a writer’s room run by a seasoned TV writer.
As part of its ongoing collaboration with MEMI, Netflix has chosen four writers from this cohort — writing partners Karim Ariqat and Mohammad Ali Al Nablsea (Jordan), Sultan Tamer (Saudi Arabia), Summer Shesha (Saudi Arabia), Ahmed Essam Ali Elsayed (Egypt) — and is providing them with a one-time grant to finish their projects.
