New rules for privately owned shisha cafes and restaurants

New rules have been published by the Ministry of Local Development to govern privately owned shisha cafes and restaurants.

According to rules set forth by the Supreme Committee for Public Shops Licensing, restaurants and cafes that serve shisha are required to obtain a permit that can cost up to EGP 10,000 and install security cameras throughout the business as of December 11.

The majority of these recommendations were first released in 2019, however they were suspended in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. If an establishment wants to restart service, they must reapply for the new licence.
