Omar Samra & Omar Nour’s adventurer documentary “Beyond the Raging Sea” is debuting on Netflix
The story begins in 2017, when Egyptian adventurers Omar Samra and Omar Nour attempted to row more than 3,000 miles in the Atlantic Challenge, one of the world’s most treacherous rowing competitions, between the Canary Islands and Antigua. The journey was planned to draw attention to the situation of refugees. Instead, when their boat capsized due to the ferocious waters of the Atlantic Ocean, their adventure became a terrifying tale of survival. Beyond the Raging Sea, a riveting documentary that was inspired by the event, is soon to be on Netflix Middle East.
Beyond the Raging Sea, directed by internationally renowned filmmaker Marco Antonio Orsini, premiered at the third El Gouna Film Festival in 2019
prior to making an appearance in a few theatres in Egypt and the UAE in 2021. The documentary received praise from festivals across the independent film circuit, including the Berlin International Film Festival and the European Film Market. This praise stemmed not only from its depiction of Omar Samra and Omar Nour’s fearsome battle for survival, but also from the fact that the duo’s struggle was so eerily similar to the struggle of the refugees they had originally hoped to represent, daring Western audiences to comprehend the reality that refugees have endured for years..
Beyond the Raging Sea, which is presently streaming on Shahid, will be accessible on Netflix Middle East this Thursday, November 24. Beyond the Raging Sea: State of Mind, a podcast about the movie, is also available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcasting services.
