SHKOON WILL HOST A CONCERT TO RASIE MONEY FOR TURKISH AND SYRIAN PEOPLE
The emergency fundraising event will be held in Hamburg on February 23 to benefit individuals impacted by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, according to the Syrian-German electronic duo Shkoon.
All earnings will be donated to @MedicoInternational, a nonprofit organisation with offices in Frankfurt that has been providing marginalised populations in the Global South and those experiencing humanitarian crises with emergency medical care and food security for more than 50 years. The organisation is crucially supporting ethnic minorities like Kurds, Alevis, Assyrians, and others that endure persistent assistance discrimination from the Assad dictatorship and the Turkish government.
The performance will take place in Knust, a basement space in Hamburg’s Old Town that has previously played host to techno heavyweights with Arab influences like Taxi Kebab and Acid Arab. The roster for the concert will be announced in the following days. The price of tickets ranges from 20 euros to 100 euros for a “Super-solidarity-ticket.” Anyone who wants to give but is unable to attend the concert can purchase a different ticket category for €10.
With the most recent dead toll over 37,000 and hundreds injured or still trapped under the rubble, the action comes as members of the music and art communities step forward to support the efforts of local aid organisations.
