STARTING FROM JANUARY 2023, FOREIGN TOURISTS IN EGYPT WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO PAY FOR TRAIN TICKETS IN USD OR EUR
According to the Ministry of Transport, beginning from January 2023, foreigners travelling to Egypt will be required to pay for their railway tickets in either dollars or euros. The choice coincides with the launch of the Spanish first-class Talgo trains, which started running this week. Additionally, reservations for sleeping trains must be made in both dollars and euros due to their high demand.
Through the zero account, the Ministry of Transport reached this conclusion in collaboration with an undisclosed bank that is governed by the Central Bank of Egypt. In order to settle the value of contracts for trains that were recently imported from outside and to lessen financial constraints, particularly in hard currency, on the Central Bank, the ministry will use the foreign revenues from collecting tickets.
