THE HARAMEIN HIGH-SPEED TRAIN WILL NOW BE DRIVEN BY SAUDI ARABIAN WOMEN

The Haramain Express Train is the quickest train in the Kingdom and the only one that runs excursions between Medina and Mecca, where Muslims from all over the world travel for their pilgrimages. The Saudi Railways Authority has completed training and graduated 32 women to operate it.

Launched in 2018, the Haramain High-Speed Rail aims to carry 60 million people a year. It takes about two hours and forty-five minutes to traverse the 460 kilometers between Mecca and Medina using electricity.
The Kingdom has undergone significant changes in recent years, including the royal order that allowed women to drive in 2017, the enlistment of women in the main branches of the armed forces with different military ranks, and the freedom for women to apply for passports and travel abroad without parental permission.
