THE SARCOPHAGUS OF RAMSES II IN A MAJOR EXHIBITION IN PARIS
As it travels to Paris, France, the sarcophagus of Ramses II, one of the most famous pharaohs and soldiers in ancient Egyptian history, will be loaned to a significant display. The archaeological exhibition “Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs” has been traveling the world since 2021, but the sarcophagus will only be on show in Paris from April 2023 to September 2023 thanks to a special dispensation by Egyptian officials.
Ramses II’s mummy was discovered in this tomb at Deir el-Bahri in 1881, but it was not the one he was originally interred in. The king’s body had been transported at least three times since his tomb in the Valley of the Kings had been looted by the end of the New Kingdom.
