Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez have developed a way to turn cactus leaves into leather that looks so realistic, you’d never guess it was made out of this desert plant. They called it “Desserto” and it’s made out of the cactus plant grown on their farms in the Mexican state of Zacatecas. Cactus is known for its tough and thick skin, which makes it an ideal texture to simulate animal skin. This method saved a billion animals from being killed.
