Diverse national services are being implemented in preparation for the international leaders, business pioneers, and changemakers who will be in attendance as the Egyptian government hosts, organises, and witnesses COP27 at Sharm El Sheikh. One of these services is to make it easier for all participating delegates to clear customs and taxes upon arrival and departure at Egyptian airports.
By establishing a specialised committee to address any challenges faced by COP27 participants, the Egyptian Tax Authority and the Customs Authority collaborated to ensure a seamless entry into the nation. In collaboration with the Central Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, and the National Bank of Egypt, participants will get a VAT refund upon departure and be exempt from Advanced Cargo Information for any imports relevant to COP27.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the initiative also includes an operations unit based at Cairo International Airport, which will be prepared to address any customs and tax issues upon the participants’ arrival, as well as one based at Sharm El Sheikh International Airport to expedite the procedure.
